As part of the Festival, the ENACT team at Newcastle University demonstrated the ENACT Learning Languages through Culture app during an online interactive workshop on 16th March. Facilitated by Dr Müge Satar, the session was led by our students Xueying Wang and Vanessa Yang who are completing their placement activities with us for their MA in International Development and Education degree: https://www.ncl.ac.uk/postgraduate/degrees/4081f/
The learners in this session are our Newcastle University students, Daria Cendeniapina and Mai Tsuruta participating in the activity (all pictured).

The ENACT web app is an amazing, free, online tool and Open Educational Resource (OER) that can help you to learn languages through cultural activities from around the world. You can search activities by language, country, or key words. You can also use the ENACT Author to create your cultural activity in your language.

This is a wonderful example of how people can share their own languages and culture, crafts and traditions through an online resource, as well as learn about others.

It can be used across schools and in communities as a means to promote intercultural awareness and understanding.

The interactive session on 16th March explored the cultural tradition of the Cheongsam, clothing worn by men and women from the 1920s in China and other parts of Asia and its evolution to today. The students demonstrated how to make a paper version of the dress and explored the key words associated with it, including a quiz.
