Preston Pupils Lit Up their Classroom with Diwali Lanterns Workshop

A burst of colour and excitement filled a Year 4 classroom in Preston on 21 May 2026 as ENACT Europa delivered a Diwali Lanterns workshop to 30 brilliant pupils. The session was planned considering three Urdu‑speaking children, who proudly became the class’s language experts, confidently correcting pronunciations and sharing their culture with others. The hands‑on lantern‑making was sprinkled with exploration of Diwali symbolisms and some new Urdu vocabulary. Their learning gains were impressive: children reported learning an average of 4.3 new words, and several beamed as they recorded perfect 6/6 scores on the post‑session quiz on the app. Year 4 teacher Elysia Ainsworth described the workshop as “fun, inclusive, and confidence‑building,” adding that pupils were buzzing afterwards with new knowledge about Diwali. She highlighted how powerful it was to see Urdu‑speaking pupils “so confident and happy about sharing this with the others” — with some children declaring the workshop “the best day ever.”
