ENACT Europa spent Thursday evening on 2nd of July with the Indoamerican Refugee Migrant Organisation (IRMO) in London, delivering a cultural workshop for their weekly youth group.
Facilitated in collaboration with Dominic Bonilla, Youth Project Coordinator at IRMO, and supported by organisation’s dedicated volunteers, the session brought together teenagers from Latin and South American communities in a blend of social craft, culture, and language learning.
The workshop centred on creating Colombian Barranquilla masks, a colourful tradition associated with the Carnaval de Barranquilla. ENACT’s assistant introduced the cultural context behind the masks and guided the craft activity, while the young participants took the lead in teaching her Spanish.
The visit highlighted the strength of community‑led cultural learning and the value of creating spaces where young people can share their heritage while exploring new skills. IRMO’s volunteers played an essential role in supporting the activity, helping foster an inclusive, welcoming environment where participants felt confident to express themselves. ENACT Europa looks forward to continuing its collaboration with IRMO and supporting future youth activities celebrating language, identity, and creativity.
