What is Around the World Club Global Network?
Around the World Club (ATWC) Global Network is an exclusive opportunity to connect and interact with schools from around the globe. You will explore a growing collection of free, multilingual, and multicultural activities. Built by Newcastle University in collaboration with researchers across Europe, ENACT is a free web app. It currently hosts 167 activities in 27 languages from 43 countries: https://enacteuropa.com/?q=all-content
The ATWC Global Network builds on a successful pilot e-Tandem exchange between Sabancı Anatolian High School in Turkey, and Benfield Secondary School in Newcastle, UK. You can have a look at the wonderful outcome of the exchange for yourself: UK-Turkey Around the World Club Tandem Exchange: https://enacteuropa.com/?q=node/537.
Who can participate and why?
Are you teaching students aged 10-16 years old? Join our network to develop your students’ language skills, intercultural understanding, and global citizenship.
What is your impact so far?
The Around the World Club has been shortlisted by HundrED as an innovative global education initiative, recognising its impact in promoting intercultural understanding and inclusive education:
https://hundred.org/en/innovations/7-the-around-the-world-club.
Schools involved have highlighted pupils’ increased cultural curiosity, engagement, and confidence when learning about languages and cultures beyond their own.
What will you and your students do?
You and your students will jointly create one of your cultural activities in your own language(s) on the ENACT web app. Alternatively, check whether we already have activities from your country/language: https://enacteuropa.com/?q=all-content If yes, you can choose one from the list.
Organise a series of Around the World Clubs with your students. At each club, your students will engage with cultural activities created by children from other schools in our network. Each activity takes about 20-40 minutes. You can complete as many activities as you like until the end of July 2026. We recommend about 3-5 events/activities, but feel free to join our network even if you can organise only one event. The clubs can be organised in different formats. For example, they can be a lunchtime club, after school club, end of year creative activities, or an ‘intercultural week’. If needed, you can introduce the activity at school, and your students can complete it at home with their family.
After each ATWC session or activity, share your students’ products and feedback on a password-protected Padlet board. Your students can directly share comments anonymously, or you can collate thoughts and post ideas yourself. Feel free to share images and videos. If you don’t have parental or school consent to show your students’ faces, just take pictures/videos of the products, or post written feedback.
How will we help you?
We provide free online assistance to help you set up your Around the World Club. We provide:
an introduction online session to meet the ENACT Team and get you started.
user guides, additional help, and technical support for you and your learners to create your own activity on the ENACT web app: user guide on creating materials.
create and share session plans that you can implement directly.
a video (like this) that summarises other schools’ comments on your activity in video format. Students love receiving this kind of feedback from others around the world.
