中国传统灯笼起源与1800多年前的西汉时期。灯笼主要是由宣纸和蜡烛制作， 烛光透过薄薄的宣纸散发光亮。 在古代，灯笼主要作用是照明； 如今，灯笼综合了绘画艺术，剪纸和刺缝等工艺，已经是可供欣赏和收藏的手工艺品。每逢节日庆祝，我们到处都可以看到灯笼。悬挂大红灯笼可以营造节日气氛，还象征着家庭团圆。后来，中国灯笼就成了喜庆的象征。
Chinese traditional lanterns originated from the Western Han Dynasty of more than 1800 years ago. The traditional lantern is covered by rice paper with a candle burning inside. Lights shine through the rice paper. They were mainly used for lighting in ancient times, while nowadays they have become a kind of traditional art and craft for collection and appreciation, combining various kinds of crafts, such as painting, paper cutting, and seam. At festivals and celebrations, lanterns can be seen almost anywhere in China. Red lanterns are hung to create a joyous atmosphere and express the meaning of family reunion. Later on, lanterns have become a symbol of happiness in China.
